FAQs

How can I pay?

Payment can be made by cash, cheque or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Payment is expected within 7 days of job completion. Keys are retained until payment is made.

Do I need to give you a key?

Depending on where your pets are housed, a key may or may not be required. We do keep many keys for clients who book regularly as this means a booking can be taken by email.

Do you mind animals at your house?

Unfortunately we are all pet lovers and already have full houses, so we can’t take your pets into our homes. However, if there is an emergency and your pet is sick or injured and needs to be under observation, this will be accommodated.

Do you offer afternoon walks?

While we do occasionally do afternoon walks as part of an onsite pet care program, problems with heat in summer mean they can’t be offered for much of the year.

What do you do if it is very hot or cold while I am away?

Unless your dog is very old, cold and wet weather does not affect their care. Walks are conducted regardless of rain. The only exception to this is severe thunderstorms which may be frightening and dangerous. However, it is extremely rare for walks to be cancelled for this reason.

Heat is more of a problem for animals, especially dogs, and HBPC reserves the right to reschedule or cancel walks due to excessive heat. As we try to do all our walking in the mornings for this very reason, it is fairly rare that we need to do this. It is most likely to occur after a very hot night.

If we are minding your dog while you are on holiday, we will make a decision based on the individual’s ability to cope with hot weather. If it is an extreme day, we will provide extra visits instead of walks in order to ensure your pet is kept cool. This is not for our benefit! Dogs are much more susceptible to heat stroke than humans as they are unable to sweat through their skin. Please ensure that adequate water and shade are provided for your pets. You will not be charged more for this extra care.
